Data & Statistics

Most publicly available data about private military and security companies pertains to PMSCs hired by governments, in particular the U.S. government. This of course only accounts for a portion of the total industry, as a large share of private security services are consumed by other private actors. There is little publicly available information on these types of private-to-private transactions and their outcomes.

Reports & Analysis

In addition to data sources, reports produced by the states, NGOs, and global corporations that engage PMSCs provide useful insight and analysis into the industry. Many of these reports explore different strategies for participating in and regulating the private security service sector. High-quality reports are also produced by journalists, advocates, and academics.

In the reports part of this section, documents are organized by type of issuing entity, and further therein by the authoring agency. For academic articles and books, works are categorized by author last name.
